Anchovy biomass estimate by the daily egg production method in 1990 in the western Mediterranean Sea
Isabel Palomera, Juan Pablo Pertierra

The Daily Egg Production Method (DEPM) is applied to the anchovy stock off southern Catalonia in summer 1990, being the first time that this method has been used in the Western Mediterranean. The estimation of the different parameters needed for the application of the model are obtained from the adult and egg sampling on sea allowing us to calculate the total spawning biomass in the area. The parameters related with fecundity of anchovy are very closed to those obtained for the same species in the Bay of Biscay. Final results are consistent with other biomass estimations obtained in the same area by means of acoustic and analitical models.

Keywords: Anchovy, eggs, spawning, fecundity, biomass estimation, Northwestern Mediterranean.
