Lizard-fish Synodus evermanni were caught off the Pacific coast of central Mexico in March 1990. Their distribution ranged from 39 to 300 m deep, appearing in 10 of the 24 hauls carried out. The average catch rate was 1.8 kg/nautical mile. Individual specimens ranging between 6 and 24 cm total length with five age groups represented. The otolith showed a concentric ring pattern which was interpreted as seasonal. Otolith microstructure supported this interpretation. The growth parameters determined indicate relatively rapid growth (K=0.511 yr^-1, L=22.31 cm, t₀ = -1.262). The catch was composed mainly of juvenile fish (age 0 and 1), indicating in a high mortality rate (Z=0.9489).
