Transformaciones entre composición química del fitoplancton, composición elemental y relación de Redfield
Fernando Fraga, Fiz F. Pérez

TRANSFORMATIONS BETWEEN PHYTOPLANKTON CHEMICAL COMPOSITION, ELEMENTAL COMPOSITION AND REDFIELD RATIO.- The mean composition for the main groups of biomolecules (protein, carbohydrates, lipids and phosphorus compounds) of natural phytoplankton is given. An equation system allowing the mutual transformation among phytoplankton elemental composition, chemical composition and the Redfield ratio for the total oxidation of the phytoplankton is established, starting from the previous data. This transformation is particularly useful to check the Redfield ratio obtained from several methods and the relationships given by several authors are analysed.

Keywords: phytoplankton chemical composition, Redfield ratio.
