Review of hydrographic environmental factors that may influence anchovy habitats in northwestern Mediterranean
Jordi Salat

This paper is a review of the hydrography of the northwestern Mediterranean. It examines, at several scales from basin-scale to local processes, water mass distribution, circulation and driving mechanisms and their variability. It is focused on those aspects that may influence the success of spawning and recruitment of anchovy: stratification processes, continental influence, frontal instabilities, mesoscale events and shelf-slope exchanges.
