Morphology of the prezoea and first zoea of the deep-sea spider crab Anamathia rissoana (Brachyura, Majidae, Pisinae).
G. Guerao and P. Abelló

The prezoeal and first zoeal stages of the deep-sea spider crab Anamathia rissoana are described from laboratory- reared material. The morphology of the prezoea shares the characteristics described for other prezoeae of majid crabs, namely the occurrence of very well-developed processes on the antennule, antenna and telson. The morphological features of the zoea are in agreement with those described for other species of the subfamily Pisinae, except for the occurrence of a pair of dorso-lateral processes on abdominal segments 2-5. This feature is absent from all other described larvae of the family Majidae, except Dorhynchus thomsoni.

Keywords: Larval development, prezoea, zoea, Anamathia rissoana, Brachyura, Majidae.
