Exogoninae (Polychaeta: Syllidae) from the Canary Islands

Eighteenspecies of Exogoninae (Polychaeta: Syllidae) belonging to genera Brania,Grubeosyllis, Exogone and Sphaerosyllis were collected on theCanarian coasts from 1972 to 1989. Fifteen species have not been reported previouslyfrom this area, of which two are new for the Mediterranean-Atlantic region: Exogone(Exogone) lourei Berkeley & Berkeley, 1938 and Sphaerosyllis(Sphaerosyllis) magnidentata Perkins, 1981. One species of Sphaerosyllisis identified only to subgeneric level. The species Brania oculata (Hartmann-Schroder,1960) is synonymyzed with B. arminii (Langerhans, 1881). Somezoogeographical notes are appended.
