Aphotopontius probolus, sp. nov., and records of other siphonostomatoid copepods from deep-sea vents in the eastern Pacific
Arthur G. Humes

Aphotopontius probulus, sp. nov. (Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida), collected from hydrothermal vents at the Galapagos Rift, is characterized by an unusually prominent process on the ventral surface between the maxillipeds and the first pair of legs. Aphotopontius forcipatus, Benthoxynus spiculifer, and Stygiopontius quadrispinosus are reported for the first time from the Gorda Ridge. Additional records are given for 11 other siphonostomes found at vents in the eastern Pacific.
