Early stages of development and reproductive biology of the South-American eelpout Austrolycus depressiceps Regan, 1913 (Teleostei: Zoarcidae)

The egg and yolk-sac larva of the zoarcid Austrolycus depressiceps are described based on biological material caught in the Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina). The dermersal egg cluster found was formed by 465 spherical eggs, with a diameter ranging from 9.2 to 9.8 mm, the largest known for marine teleost. No structure, pattern or pores were observed on the surface. The newly hatched larvae (22 to 25 mm TL) were developed and the morphology and meristics were close to adults.
